Blergh, this one was so difficult. Those open wings were the devil. Good thing she ended up coming out pretty nice.
Luna is made out of super sculpey and sculpey firm over a wire and foil armature. She was painted with acrylics and sprayed with matte sealer. The mane, tail, and base were painted with a transparent silver iridescent paint. The base is a little under 3 1/2 inches and she stands 8 inches tall.
Is her base removable? If so she could definitely be a monitor hanger like my Luna here : [link] . It is pretty much the exact same pose except the person that commissioned her wanted her mane to be flowing back instead of forward like it usually does, so yours should hang pretty well. Just a thought because it can help to sell for a better price at the con. Oh, and nice Luna by the way....great job on the shoes!!!!!
She's sculpted onto the base because the last one I made like this had some stability issues (even with the to help). I didn't even know monitor hangers were things people even wanted until recently, so I'll be experimenting with some of those soon (hopefully in time for BAP).
Yeah, I made a Rainbow Dash one a long time ago but my sculpting wasn't very good yet. Then I made this Luna on the base and it was removable. I just looked at at and noticed that it was the same pose as my older Rainbow Dash and tried it...it worked great. It was a commission and not long after I posted pictures someone ordered the exact same piece but without the stand...just as a monitor hanger! Good luck
Wow! This is incredible! I'm just started my beginning ceramics class at my high school so I've a long way before I can even dream of making something like this. Is this regular clay? I couldn't imagine making something like this out of the stuff we've been using.
Thanks! This is polymer clay, meant more for miniature sculpture type pieces. Ceramic clay is a whole different ballpark, so this type of stuff would be unnecessary difficult to achieve. Laying or sitting poses works be plausible and all those cool glazes are really fun to play around with.
Have I said recently that your work is AWESOME! Well I've done you an injustice! Because that is a total understatement! This is so beyond AWESOME, that AWESOME is not even in the rear view mirror! I really enjoy the fine pose, well executed paint, and the seamless smooth work! Have Fun!
